Professor Georgo E. Howard, head

Is the question which the university
debating studentB aro working for the
two big contests, whlcl will be held
December 10. Minnesota comes hero
that night and tho Nebraska team
goes to Iowa City for a debate with
Iowa the enme night.

tive and stimulative talk and at the

questions of tho class. The talk is
one of a series which Professor Fogg

IMPORTANT GAMES IN '
. EAST AND WEST TODAY
SEMI-FINAL C0NTE8T8 IN CHAM
PIONSHIP RACES.
MINNESOTA AND WISCONSIN PLAY
Big Eight Conference Title Likely to
Be Settled by the Badger
Gopher Battle at
Madison.
TODAY'8 GAME8.
Chicago vs. Cornell, at Ithaca.
Michigan vs. Pennsylvania, at Phila
delphia. Minnesota vs. Wisconsin, at Madison
Harvard vs. Dartmouth, at Cambridge.
Yale vs. Princeton, at New Haven.
Iowa vs. Ames, at Iowa City.
Notre Dame vs. Miami, at Notre Dame.
Crucial contests, deciding confer
onco titles In somo cases, will be
played on both eastern and wostorn
Igrldlrons today. Praotlcally all of
those gameB aro doped to bo cIoro
contests, with ovon odds.
In tho wet tho Interest centers
about tho Minnesota-Wisconsin strug
gle at Madison. Cant. McGovorn Ib
quite likely out of tho gamo for tho
Gophers, and thlB materially weak
ens Conch Williams' toam. Yet Min
nesota is confident and oxpects Pick
orlng, tho star who woe out of tho
Nebraska gamo, to do groat work.
Tho decisive win of tho Gophers over
Chicago loft tho MlnncBotans favor
ites In tho betting, but tho announce
ment that McGovern will probably not
bo In tho gamo changed tho situa
tion Bomowhat.
Coach Barry of Wisconsin has hold
his men In chock all fall ahd ho plans
to surprise the Gophers today. His
lino Is reputed to bo much stronger
than tho Gophers and this may check
the Mlnnosota advance.
Cornell-Chicago.
In tho Inter-section contests that
between Chicago and Cornell at Ith
aca takes llrBt rank. Cornell has
been relying mostly on tho old stylo
game, while tho Maroons aro disposed
to try tho new football. Both teams
aro (n good shapo and tho gamo should
be fast. Cornell, was decisively defeat
ed by Harvard last wook, but claims
to havo improved to a considerable
extent during tho past weok.
Michigan and Pennsylvania will
play at Philadelphia. On this gamo
tho dopestors refuse to prophosy. It
Is said that either team may win by
a good score. Michigan has shown
erratic form this fall and her perform
ance against tho Pennsles cannot be
foretold.
In tho east Dartmouth and Harvard
meet at Cambridge, with tho odds
favoring Harvard. Neither team has
been defeated thla season, and tho
Dartmouth men will fight hard.
Iowa and Ames will play this after
noon to decide the Iowa stato cham
pionship. Tho Iowa City men havo
It figured out that if Iowa defeats
Ames she may be In tho running for
the Missouri Valley championship.
Thoy base their Judgment on her pos
sibility of defeating Kanass next
weok. Nebraska students who have
Been both machines at work will not
