ANOTHER TIE.
Tlo Bcoros somotlmos monn victory;
riomotlmcB thoy mean defeat. Tho 6 to
0 figure which Nebraska accorded
South Dakota was nothing moro or
leas than a defoat, viewed from tho
standpoint of tho orltlcal dopoator.
But tho Bcoro of last Saturday was
nono tho loss a victory.
. Iowa'B points wore all-mado In tho
flrBt half. Tho groat work of Hyland,
tho Hnwkoyo too- artlBt, In dropping
two field goalB ovor tho poBts, put Ne-
Nebraskan will quote a bit of foot
ball history. It Is this V. C. Hascall,
who wort an "N" In tho Iowa game aB
BUbstltuto quarter, has mlsBed Just ono
football practico In tho past two years.
He has failed oh only one occasion to
don tho moleBklns. In order that ho
might learn moro of tho game and, In
cldentally, that Bomo of tho heavier
varsity players might Improve their
tactics by running over him. It con
duct such as this is not loyalty to the
Scarlot and Cream, .the , NebraBkan
would like to seo a sample of tho ao
tual authentic article.
Hascall has been faithful to the
game throughout IiIb two years of prac
tice. He has worked constantly for
the good of tho squad, well knowing
that his chanco of ovor getting in a
big game was extromoly Blight, When
an unfortunate combination of olrcum-
stances made his prosenco in tho line
up Imperative last Saturday afternoon,
ho wont into tho game and mado tho
best light that ho know how to play.
Undoubtedly Quarterback Hascall
lacks tho natural ability of -a Cooko or
a Bontloy. But Is not tho man who
works faithfully to overcome natural
lacks to bo respected ' tho moro bo
cauBo of that fact?

braBka's foes In tho lead long bofore
tho whistle blow. So much of tho
gamo was a real defeat for tho Scar
lot and Cream.
But In v tho socond half, Nebraska,
presumably downcast under tho cloud
of an unfavorable score, plowod down
the field and by straight football tac
tics secured a touchdown. It was this
part of tho work which showed tho
CornhuskorB up for tho roal players
which thoy can bo. With six points
against them, after tho fearful strain
of thlrty-flvo minutes of grinding de
fensive play, Nebraska's warrlorB
wont out upon tho field which had first
soon thorn in .defeat and snatched a
tlo from their sturdy oppononts.
It was good work, and it was worthy
of Nebraska. It Is JuBt the sort of
' work that tho Nebraskan has been
continually instating- tho Cornhuskor
players "wore capable' of accomplishing.
' Thoy are playing the best gamo that
they know. Thoy arq uo laying down
Jn tho face of apparent defeat. In a
. word, thoy are game to the finish.
and it believes that a majority of Ne
braska University students will con
cur in tho opinion. "

QUARTERBACK HA8CALL.
It is very probable that Nebraska
would havo won tho Iowa gamo had
Bontley been in his usual place at
quarter. It Is just as likely, too, that
the Cornhuskors would have been vic
torious over Minnesota if "Pip" Cooke,
and Chaloupka, and Harvey, and ono
or two other old stars had been a part
of tho Nebraska, team.
Admitted that weakness in the
quarterback position coBt Nebraska tho
Hawkeyo game, what ot it? Are Ne
braska students going to "turn down"
a fellow student because the best game
of which ho waB capable did not come
tip to tho winning standard? That Is
.'a question which is ontlrely portinont
vn .view of some of tho criticisms
which have been made since the Sat
