DEBATE WILL BE HELD LATE THIS WEEK Students who Desire to Contest Must Register not Later Than Tues day of Next Week With a Fee of $1. Details or the preliminary debates for choosing speakers to represent Ne braska In inter-colleglate debates were announced yesterday by Professor M. M. Fogg of the rhetoric department. The preliminary debates will be held late next week, or early In the follow ing week. The rules to govern the contests ar as follows. "ThlB preliminary debate Is open to all students in the university. Its ob ject Ib to enable a board of judges members of the faculty to select what Booms to them the most promis ing debaters from fifteen to elghten In numbqr who shall compose the university debuting squad for the year from which the eight members of tho teams for the December 10th debates with the University of Minnesota at Lincoln and with the University of Iowa at Iowa City will be selected. "All students who intend to compete are requested to nptlfy the secretary of the debating board not later than Tuesday, October 12. The UBual fee of 1.00 toward the, support of tho Inter-colleglate contests Is to bo paid to the treasurer, Mr. MaxWesterman, be fore the preliminary debate. A university men's meeting will be held In the Temple Sunday. Nell J. itluMIUen, Jr., of Chicago, will be the speaker and has chosen for his sub ject, "College Men and tho Coming Crlals." Mr. McMlllen la a University of Ill inois man, having graduated from that Institution with the class- of 1904. Whllo In school Mr. McMlllen, was, prominent In Y. M. C, A. work ana waB general secrotaVy there for two years. After graduating he continued his Y. M. C. A. work and was with the international bible Btudy commit tee for thro years. At the present time he holdB tho position of secretary on tho International clmmltteo of the Y. M. C. A, During late years Mr. McMlllen has traveled extensively, promoting Y. M. C. A. bible study among the colleges of tho United States, He will spend five days here at N, ebraska helping to get the Bible Study work under way. Thursday night the Blblo Study committee lunched with Mr. McMlllen and then tho committeemen went out to enroll men for Blblo study and signed fifty-three.' In a final scrimmage Wednesday night preparatory to the gamo between the University of Nebraska and Knox, the college team suffered so many in juries that a much weakened team will be compelled to face the Corn huskera on Saturday. Gebhart, the star half back of the Knox team, is laid up with a wrenched ankle and while he will make tho trip with the team he probably will" not bo able to get Jntp the 'game at all. Swanson, captain and center, Is gen erally bruised rup after the scrimmage, and the same may be said of, Miller, ond. Both of those players, however, will be able to start on Saturday. Bridge, the other regular half, had a ligament torn in tho gamo last Sat urday and will not even be able to make the trip. Those Injuries coming at this ttlmo necessitate sending a very light team against Nebraska on Saturday.
