responsible for tho collection of "an
unusually largo number of smoko de
votees about the gate, who persisted
In dofylng superstition and the edict
of the gruesome head.
Girls flocked frbm the library to
view the strange sight and a crowd
of tho curious hung about the gate
during the hour or more that the
head remained in Its place. When
the morning was half gone the uni
versity authorities got wind of tho
circumstances and Dr. Wolcott of the
collego of medicine was deputised to
return the head to its placo In tho
laboratories of Nebraska Hall.
The skull was apparently taken
from the laboratory some time late
Tuesday evening. It had been used
for experimental work and any one
of several students might have taken
It. It was placed on the gate somo
time during the night and was ready
early in the morning to greet tho stu
dents.
