Graduates Are Wanted to Fill Places
In Many Schools.
According to a recent list put out
by the Thurston Teachers Agency a
number of positions aro open to tho
students, graduating this spring as
teachers and instructors over tho
United StateB. -.
There are between thirty-five and
forty-five positions listed, paying all
the way from $GG0 to $2,800 per year.
The avorage salnry offered, however,
Is from $1,000 to $1,250.
These positions Include almost
every subject taught at the university
with a row additions. Applications
are wanted for teachers in physics,
chemistry, mathmetlcs, history, psy
chology, English, general science, ag
riculture, zoology and anatomy, econ
omics, animal husbandry, botany and
physics, Latin and Gorman, Greek,
French and German, French and
Spanish, mechanical drawing, manual
training, domestic science, civil en
gineering, violin and piano, civics,
girls' gymnasium work and commer
cial courses.
Many of these positions are In state
normals or colleges. Several positions
such as city superintendent, ward prin
cipal and academy principal are also
open. Applications are also wanted
for the positions of president of
state normal.

University of Washington Profits By
Coming Exposition. .
Work on its grounds that would
have taken tho Uniyorsity of Washing
ton at Seattle ton years to accomplish,
has boon dono in two years by tho Al-a8ka-Yukon-Pnciflc
Exposition, ip pre
paration for tho great World's Fair
which Is to bo hold on tho university
campus during tho summer of 1909.
Approximately $1,600,000 is being ex
pended foi permanent buildings and in
further beautifying tho campus.
Tho oxposition has apent more than
$300,000 in work on tho grounds ex
clusive of buildings. Five miles of
roads and avonues have been graded
and paved with asphalt. A complete
sewerage system embracing throe
miles of pipe has been' laid. With
this goes the sovon miles of wator
mains that cover tho entire campus.
After tho exposition 1b over the uni
versity will find 'it has a natural am-
pitheator staged and seated, able at
loast to caro for 25,000 persons.
Besides these things two subways
have been constructed under the
northern Paplflc railroad tracks which
cross- the lower campus. Another
$100,000 has been spent in parking the
grounds in terraces, shrubs and trees
and In overy way possible to beautify
the university campus on which tho
exposition stands:
A social museum has been started
at Iowa. It consists, of photographs of
tho lifo of other peoples, and shows
their economlo activities, and their In
dustrial methods.
