A bill has been presented In the house of. representatives of the Illi nois legislature which bodes ill to "all Greek letter fraternities If its passage Is secured. It seeks 'to secure the re peal of a bill passed about four years ago exempting Greek letter fraterni ties from taxation on real and personal property. This old bill has been a great help to fraternities, who own their houses or furniture and has caused a great many chapters to build permanent homes in many of the colleges and universities of the state. If tho bill is passed it will mean that an extra yearly expense of from $200 to iboo will have to be. met, which Is clearly an Injustice In more ways than one, according to the way the f rat men look at it. The various fraternities at Indiana, Wabash and Purdue have combined to fight the bill to a finish. Tho chap ters at Indiana were tho first to take, the matter up and in a few days no tified others to take similar action. Letters have been sent to all the alumni In the ,state asking them to use their Influence with their repre sentatives. Many of the senators and representatives of tho 'state are fra ternity men and It Is expected that this fact will aid the fraternities to a great extent, as these men can see the disastrous effects of such a move ment The bill will come up for its second reading soon and the final outcome will bo looked forward to with eager Interest by all Greek letter men.
