of tho class.
Tho voto of tho co-eds was tho win

tho class turned out in largo num

by a vory largo percentage. A fow
very ' probably voted for Bakor, but
tho engineering candldato received
tho most of his support from his
own college. His support there was
not by any moans unanimous, how
ever. HIUb exceeded tho expectations of
his supporters in tho total voto. It
had boon expected that tho voto
would bo considerably closer. A
week ago tho olection might havo
boon safely concodod to Hills by a
majority such as ho actually got, but
within tho past fow dayB thoro seem

to make tho contest very close.
Girls Did It.
Had the mooting been hold as
scheduled Tuesday, Hills might have
lost. Tho Btormy .weather would
havo provented tho attendance of
the girls, who were his Bolid support
ers. With tho postponement of tho
meeting Hills probably settled his
chanco of winning. Ho secured, In

President Eliot of Harvard makes
a vigorous and thoughtful defense of
women teachers against the reiterat
ed charge that they aro "feminizing"
tho American boy, He probably ret
grets, with other college presidents,
that the feminizing process has not
gono further, so far as It concerns
many of his students, as, for Instance,
those who painted old John Harvard's
statue red 'and the others of lady-like
demeanor who initiated fellow stu
dents by branding them. 'with burn
ing cigarettes.
