With a practical unanimity thoy sn
that tho object or the organization
will be tho' promotion of clnBS spirit
and of the class Interests. One writer
says that such a society would have
aided in socurlng the football eham
plonshlp for the class If It had been
organized. Many other benefits "f a
similar "nature nre to accrue to the
class from Its organization. Just how
much basis is to be round for them
claims?
A good examplo or now sucn a so
ciety, works Is to be round In looking
at the Innocents. In the memory of
the writer no attempt has ever been
made by this society to direct or assist
in the affairs of the senior class. Tho
lead in class as well as university
affairs Is frequently taken ny us
members, but this Is not an action of
the society. Why does such action
not take place? Simply because there
Is a class organization of the class as
a whole which obviates all necessity
of such Interference. Tho work or
the class is very properly left to su'h
committees as are appointed by th"
dulj constituted ofllcers or the class,
and the futility of attempting to rah"
class spirit by a small organization
where a large one has failed must be
apparent.
Another objection to the Junior so
clety lies In the Tact that in all prob
ability Ihe men In the class who an
best lilted to organize and lead qlaBS
spirit will not all be chosen; where
as, If there be no permanent organiza
tion, the men who really take an In
tel est In such affairs will get together
and boost. The present, successful
administration ol the senior clash Is
due not to any work or the Innocen's
society, but to the appointment by
President Mauson or men who, al
though in many cases opposed id his
election, had the Interests or the cIphs
at heart and gave freely of their llni"
and energj to turther them.
Lastly, aside from Its proposed
class function the new society would
undoubtedly attempt to Interfoio In
the affairs ol the school as a w.'iolo.
