FRIDAY, JANUARY IB, 1909. H1 WHO WANTS IT AND WHY. To the Btudonts who havo observed tho activities of tho clique that Is promoting the organization of tho pro- poBed junior society It looks as though tho whole movement Ib being mado for tho self-aggrandizement of a fow ,mon of tho third year class. Hero Ib what has gono on In advancing tho scheme: The Idea of this organization was hatched In tho fertilo brains of cer tain BtudontB who havo controlled the affairs of tho junior clans for over a year. i No groat numbor of Juniors outside thut oxcluslvo set woro consulted In the matter before the plans woro pre sented to tho class. At the meoting of tho third year men, when the plan for the proposod Bociety was preson'tod, there was no general discussion of the merits of the Bchome by any mon outside tho clique, and it was adopted by prac tically a silent vote. Slnco that meeting the president of tho class, one of tho originators of the plan for the society, has appointed a committee, with himself aB a moinbor, 'to arrango detailed plans for perfect ing tho organization of tho proposed soctoty. Now, theso aro simply , the facts In tho case, and, as was stated In the opening sentence of this article, they lead tho IntoreBted observer of junior affairs to bellovo that tho n.ew society Ib being1 promoted for tho purpose of raising a certain element to higher influence in class activities. Tho reasons loading to such a conclusion are these: The plan for a Junior society 1b brought up at a time when there is no need for one. It Ib backed by men who have controlled the politics of the class for. over a year, and who aro now said to bo designing to place ono of their number In as president of tho junior class for 'the ensuing semester. The plans for the new organization havo not been given the publicity that thoy should have had In order to so cure tho confidence In them of other students outside of tho clique. This makes It look as though tho scheme i 1st being railroaded through to perfec tion. In fact, that Is what a consid erable number of the Btudonts In tho Jt junlorjclasa charge Is being attempted. "lWrhtfn set of men who began tho movement for the junior society havo stirred up a great deal of antagonism toward themselves and they are going Tho-iHBUQ of tho .Dally No braBknn tomorrow will bo a apodal edition of olght jmges devoted to tho Interests of tho engineering department.
