There wore about twenty-live debating enthusi asts present and the meeting lasted over nu hour. Nebraska was particularly fortunate this year In having a largo number of faculty members present at the other debates as judges, wo that tho debaters have been able to profit not only by the experience of their own school In the recent debate, but also by the experience of others schools. Professor Wilson apoko of the Iowa Wisconsin debate at Iowa City; Dr. Maxey spoke of tho Nebraska-Wisconsin debato at Madison; Dean Ward, who was a judge with Profoa sor Wilson at the Iowa-Wisconsin de bate, told of hiB impresBlonB while there, and Professor Taylor told of the Mlnnesota-WlaconBln debate at Minneapolis. Have Fine Campus. Professor Wilson declared that one of the thlngB which Impressed him most forcibly while at Iowa City was the fact that Iowa was developing a wonderful university plant. A definite plan was early adopted in the ar rangement of buildings on the campita and In tho nature of the buildings to be constructed. This plan has been cloBoly adhere 1 to, so that now tho University of Iowa has a beautiful campus with no such haphazard ar rangement of building's as dignifies the University oi Nebraska. . Professor Wilson declared that the il bate at Iowa City emphasized clear ly the superiority of extemporaneous work over prepared and memorized work. The opening of each speech was more formal and prepared than the closing, which was extemporane ous, and as a result the closing win Veil Pins 50c to 3.50 Tho name HALLET is only on good gifts nothing else, and you, as others, will appreciate receiving them. much the strongest part of the speech. Dr. Maxey, who accompanied the Nebraska team to Wisconsin, spoke briefly of that debate. He declared that each Nebranka man did well and presented his material in a highly croditable manner, and that the out come was uncertain until the deci sion of tho juJgos was Anally an nounced. Dr. Maxey especially em phasized tho manner in which they had been trpated while at Madison, and declared that the people of the university did everything possible for their completo happiness except to give them the decision. In speaking of the Iowa-Wisconsin debate, Dean Ward declared that tho whole thing was lost in the rebuttal speeches. Tho first speeches seemed to be largely prepared beforehand, but In the final speeches it wns evi dent just what each side was capable of doing. Dean Ward also declared that there was a very dangerous uso of false ovldenco, and at somo times a scant uso of facts to back up theory. Professor Taylor spoke briefly of the Wisconsin-Minnesota debate, nnd declared that tho weak points in this debate differed Vory materially from the weak points in the other dobates of 'the loaguq that ho had heard about, as tho debate was 'decided by - tho direct arguments of tho two teams, In 'the rebuttal speeches 'each, side seemed to be trying to rattle tho judges nnd the judges decided not to be. rattled.
