In tho first game of the season's schedule last Saturday evening, the CornluiBker basket ball five met and dofpated tho Cotner university team ty a score of 28 to 24. The game was merely a practice affair tor the var sity team, and tho outcome was ot little moment to them so long as they nnished In tho lead. At the close of ih( first half nnd during tho first part of the second tho Cornhuskers were enjoying a comfortable lead; when Dr. Clapp saw tnat an easy Cornhusk pr victory was assured he began put ting in substitutes so as to got a gon line upon the ability of the men with whom ho has been working for the last ioW weeks. Captain Walsh did not take part In the game at all on account of a strained ankle, and his place was abb nllod duilng tho first half by Hutchi son Early in tho second hulf tho Cotner players were facing an entirely dlff( rent team from tho ono which had started against them but tho substi tutions did not stop there. Nearly fif teen men played on the Cornhusker toam at one time or another during the game. The line-up at the beginning of the game was as follows: Vood and Hutchison, forwards; Bell and Perry, guards, and Petrashok) center. Later In the game Fowler, Schmidt, and Bothwell were put In ta forwards; Rlchey at center, and Long, Unlnnd, Ingcrsoll and Neff at guards. Dr. Clapp expressed himself as be ing very well satisfied with the show ing of tho team in Saturday's contest. Considering the lack of united team work tin men made a very good show ing and their Bpeed gives promise that Nebraska may this year boast of a championship basketball team. At the request of Dr. Clapp there will be a meeting of non-fraternity men this morning at his office at 11 o'clock. The purposo of tho meeting will bo to discuss thb advisability of hofuMng an indoor track meet open only to non-fratornlty students of the university, tho meet to take place some time during the latter part of January or early In February. Somo tlmo ngo the Idea was launched of having two indoor track meets which wore to be preliminary to tho Charter Day meet. One meet was to be an Inter-fratonlty meet and the other strictly for non-fratornlty men. According to tho pain, the three winners of each ovent In each of these two meets were to qualify for the finals which would bo held In th place of the annual Charter Day meet. This plan met with tho InBtant ap proval of ovoryone to whose attention It has been called. The fraternity men havo already made arrangements for their meot which is to take placo on Saturday evening, January 30th. It is thought that at the meeting of the non-fraternity men this morning somo definite action will bo taken n regard to having thoir meot, in which case tho fulfillment of tho original plan will bo mado possible. kTho advantages of such a plan are very great. It Is bound to- create a among all the students of the univer sity than has ever existed here be fore, and this Interest will doubtless extend to the outdoor track work In the spring. It Is the latter result which causes Dr. Clapp to take bu great an Interest In Jhe undertaking and It Is to be hoped that he will bo assisted by the hearty support of ovoryone. Every non-fratornlty man who is Interested Is urged to be present at tho meeting this morning at U o'clock In Dr. Clapp's office. NEW PRESIDENT AT MISSOURI.
