Recently Dean Wnnl, dean of the
college of medicine of the nnlvernlty,
received word that Nebraska had been
Blgnally honored by the Royal College
oJMiyslclaiiB and Surgeons, an Eng
lish Institution. Any student who
takes his degree at the University of
Nebraska In the college of medicine
will be accepted on equal stnndlng
with graduates of English colleges of
medicine. In other words he will be
allowed to practice In that country
without a previous examination. Here
tofore Nebraska students who desired
to go to England to practice were
forced to pass a series of examinations
before being accepted. The privilege
which has been granted to the univer
sity will save the graduates no end
of annoyance and trouble, and Is a
recognition of the splendid work
which is being done by the college of
medicine.
Very Few Selected.
Nebraska Is the seventh college to
be granted the privilege In the United
States. Six other universities in all
sections of the country, mostly In the
east though, has been similarly hon
ored by the Royal College of Physi
cians and Surgeons. Nebraska Is the
only college In the Missouri valley
which has been granted the privilege.
The six and five year students alike
may take advantage of It. The only
requirement is that the student re
ceive his "M.D." degree.
The Royal college voluntarily voted
the honor to Nebraska without pre
vious application. No formal applica
tion was made and the announcement
that It had been granted was a pleas
ant surprise to the niemberB of the
faculty and to the students alike. Un
til the last few years, all American
students were forced to undergo ex
aminations. Then the Royal college
granted the Tight to one college.
Since that time six others have been
added to tue list, Nebraska making
the seventh one to be honored.
College Is Growing.
Under the efficient control of -Dean
Ward, the college of medicine Is mak
ing rapid strides to the front, anxl has
taken a position numbering with the

itor yesterday. Mr. Ernst, although
no longer actively connected with the
management of tho university, Is still
much Interested In Its affairs.
All girls wishing to play basket ball
on clasB teams leave names and day
on which they aro free from 1 to 1:45,
at Miss Gitting's ofilco before Friday
night, December 4. Any not froo at

The graduate club will hold its noxt
meeting January irJ, Instead of De
cember' 10, as was previously an

made because of tho conflict with the
Illinois-Nebraska debate, flans aro
now under way for a meeting of tho
graduate club in which students work
ing on special problems will take an
active pat t In tho program.
Miss Ingram of the botanical staff
is arranging a card catalogue of all
students who have enrolled In the de
partment of botany In tho last ten
years. When tho work is completed
it will be possible to toll the oxact
record of every one who has studied
botany in that length of time In the
university. This will bo of lnvaluablo
aid in answering requests received
from time to time as to the ability
of graduates.

faculty. The enrollment uas increased
greatly within the last few years, and
the college of medicine is now one of
the most important departments of the
university, 'iho laboratories aro mod
ern in every way, while tho faculty
ranks with that of any western insti
tution. The medical course is a se
vere one and requires from five to six
years to complete, depending upon the
amount of elective . work which the
student takes. The HrBt two years of
the course, after the academic prepa
ration has been completed aro spent
in Lincoln, while the last two -are
spent in Omaha.
Tho honor which the Royal college
of physicians and surgeons has con
ferred "upon the university is an im
portant one, and fully reflects tho ex
cellent work which Is being done In
the medical college.
'PIP" COOKE SERIOUSLY INJURED

"Pip" Cooke, Nebraska's midget
quarterback, was seriously Injured in
yesterday's game with the Carllsles,
and had to bo removed from tho con
test. Tendons of his leg wore torn
loose, maHIng a painful injury.
Pie was taken to a local hospital,
where ho was suffering great pain
last night. Ho probably will be con
fined to hjs bed for several days.
LACK REQUIRED INFORMATION.
Need of an Alumni Secretary Again
Brought to Light.
The university Is in receipt of a
request from tho national commission
of country llfo asking for a lot of sta
tistical Information In regard to what
graduates of Nebraska's agricultural
schools have done. Tho commission
desire to know how many of those on
rolled in the agricultural college,
whether graduated or not, have en
gaged in agricultural pursuits either
In whole or In part. They further
want informaton as to how many of
those enrolled have graduated, how
many have taken advanced courses,
and other information.
At present it would take the regis
trar's ofllce several months of hard
work to discover even a part of what
Is wanted. Even tho material which
the ofllce has on the subjects In ques
tion is not in Bhapo for use. The
difficulty lies in tho fact that Ne
braska provides for no officer who
shall keep in touch with tho alumni
and former students. At Harvard there
is an alumni secretary who makes a
specialty of gathering data of tho sort
wanted by the country life commis
sion. The need of such data,- is in
some cases great. In tho present in
stance it is wanted to show what havo
been the results of tho government
financial aid to agricultural schoolB.
