Thanksgiving Musical Program Is Ap
preciated by a Large Crowd
Prominent Musicians Aid
in Giving It.
Not only was tho usual Thanksgiv
ing musical program given yesterday,
but an address was given by Dean
Roscoo Pound of Northwestern uni
versity. Dean Pound was formerly
dean of the law school at tho Uni
versity of Nobraska and was ono of
tho most popular professors in tho
university when ho was here. Ho
spoke briefly -as follows:
"It has been suggested to mo that
I write something giving my im
pressions of Nebraska as seen by an
outsider. I fool rather qualified, how
ever, to give my impressions of out
side as seen by a Nebraska man. I
was on the campus when Professor
Caldwell graduated, and when Pro
fessor Fosslor was appointed an in
structor in German. In ract I might
almost say that boforo Besscy and
Sherman were I was.
Thjngs Noticable Here.
"There are several characteristics
of Nebraska, however, that havo
struck mo and that I wish to speak
of. I might dlvido these in threo
distinct characteristics: First, the
attitude of tho -instructor to tho. Btu
dont; second, the attitude of the btu
dont to tho instructor, and third, the
relative Importance of the class room
and tho ball room.
"At Nebraska tho faculty seems al
most to exist for tho students. Thoro
are places where the students seem
to exist for the good of tho professor,
but it is not so hero. Few realize
the difference between an institution
where every energy , is directed to
wards tho good of tho students and
ono where it is not. It is no wonder
that Nobraska has sent forth the
scholars that it has. Whilo It is a
great thing for tho professor to bo
able to point to tho volumns upon his
desk that ho ha8 written, it is an even

der whether or not tho educational
feature Is not a more appendage of
tho social life. This Is not truo at
Nobraska and has' never been. Edu-

was especially fine and consisted of

chorus, , with Mrs. Holyoke, Mrs.
Hummel, Mrs. Eastorday and Mr, Mil
ler. Fred Dorman, '01, of Denver, will
be married to Miss Smith, of Lincoln,
this evening. Mr. Dorman was for
two years after bis graduation an in
structor In mechanical .engineering
and drawing at tho university. He Is
now with tho American Bridge Com
pany of Colorado.
