Mr. E. G. Woodruff Makes Special
Study of Coal Lands.
Tho recent cold weather in the west
era states has made it necessary for
the members of tho United States geo
logical survey to close their season's
field work. On tholr return to tho
east several of tho graduatos of the
university have found it possible to
mako a stop in Lincoln.
Among those Is Mr. E. G. Wood
ruff, who took his B. S. nnd M. A. de
grees at tho university and was for
a time an assistant in geology. Mr.
Woodruff has been visiting Professors
Barbour and Condra, and is on his
way to Washington, where he will
spend the winter. During tho sum
mer he has had charge of a party In
Wyoming, and has been making a
special study of coal lands In the
southern part of the Big Horn basin
and near Rattlesnake mountains. Ho
has discovered somo oxtromely inter
esting problems ln geology and has
located Borne very promising foBBll
fields.
After Mr. Woodruff, left Nobraska
ho taught for a timo In tho University
of Oklahoma and then studied In Har
vard. After ho had finished his Btudy
thore ho became a permanent member
of the United States geological sur
vey. Mr. L. G. Peperburg, who was di
recting a party of United States geo
logists In Wyoming, Is also in Lincoln.
Ho Is visiting frlondB at tho university
and while hero will take tho examina
tions for his second degroo in geology
and geography.
Mr. C. R. Calvort Is directing
a party In Wyoming and will finish tho
general geology of a certain part of
that state this yoar. Mr. Calvert Is
paying special attention to coal de
posits. He has finished hlB work for
hlB M. A. degroo and will take tho
examinations while here.
Mr. Schramm, a former assistant
in thQ geology department, is working
with Mr. Calvort and will return in
a fow days.
