Mr. Adolph Shane, 1901, who has been assistant professor In electrical engineering at Ames, has recently been advanced to the position of as sociate professor In tho same, institu tion. Tho herbarium contains over 10,000 specimens of Ne braska flowering plants alone, besides collections from practically all lands on the globo. University friends of Edwin Curtis and Scena Hansen, both graduates of tho university have just learned of their marriage. The groom is county superintendent of Adams county and tho couple will make their home in Hastings. Tho marriage was colo brated last Saturday night. The comet in the northern sky is still getting brighter and is now vlsiblo in an ordinary field glass. It now lies about fifteen decrees north of tho bright star Vego. Tho observatory will bo open for a view of it' in the near future, but just now tho tele scope is fn use every clear evening for clasB work. Dr, Hap.eman. of Mlhden, Nebraska, was at the university Friday. Dr. Hapeman Is a botanist of wide reputa tion and has collected many plants for the university herbarium. He has but recently returned from the (Hawaiian. Islands, whore" he has been collecting many of tho plants found' there. Season Opened With Stunts at Each of Eleven Fraternity Houses. Smokers ,at the eleven fraternity chapter housoB signaled tho opening of tho rushing season last night. From now on until after tho mid-semester examinations, the promising freshlo will be the object of much attention from the fraternity men. On Satur day, November 25, the first pledges of first year men will be made. As Van ( indication that the present freshman class is one of exceptional promise, fully eighty first year men were entertained at the different fra ternity houses last night. Tho en tertainment varied somewhat, but was along the usual lino of a genial infor mal time. i Tonight a- number of tho fraternities' have rushing stunts. As a rule about thirty-flve men aro pledged from 'the freshman class each year.
