Y. M. C. A. A880CIATION NOTES.
Bible 8tudy Classes Will 8tart Soon
With Qood Enrollment
Announcement is made that tho uni
versity Y. M. 0. A. BIblo classea will
begin tholr regular sessions oithor dur
ing the latter part of this week or
early next Thus far 280 students
havo enrolled for the courses. Last
year there was a total enrollment of
over 600, of which 360 attended for at
least two months. This year an at
tempt will bo made to secure an atten
dance of GOO, which means a total en
rollment of over 750.
A considerable number of handbooks
published by the association are still
on hand in the secretary's ofllco. The
books are this year gotten out in ex
ceptionally good style and contain
much information of value to tho stu
dent Tho directory of students will
probably bo Issued soon after Thanks
giving. Requests for its are already
being received.
Dr. W. S. Hall, of Chicago, will ad
dress the association, Sunday, October
18. Dr. Hall spoke to the university
men last fall, and Is well liked by his
hearers.
In ordor that some relief could be
afforded engineering students, about
thirty members of the sophomore class
in tho engineering school wero ro-reg-istored
yesterday by Registrar Harri
son. Tho change permitted morning
laboratory work during tho week,
which is of groat advantage to the
students.
Tho conflict arose over tho hours of
which will mean a good deal to tho
recitation of mathematics 3, which for
tho past fow years has come at eight
and nine in tho morning. But fow
classos havo been organized and math
ematics will now come at two and
throe In the afternoon. By this change
tho students are enabled to devoto the
ontiro morning to chemistry and
physics laboratory.
Tho laboratory period requires four
hours' work and It Is considered desir
able that those four hours should come
together since the student will not
have to preparo his apparatus and
then put it away again two or three
times during tho laboratory period.
By uninterrupted work, ho is said to
accomplish a great deal moro than
formerly.
Change Disorganizes.
While tho change rather disorgan
ized the work for a short time, it Is
thought that it will prove a most ex
cellent thing. With chemistry and
physics laboratory in tho morning,
shop work will now come in the after
noon and on Friday and Saturday
morning As the shop period is for
but""two hours it 1b easy to carry it
during tho week, and pari of Satur
day morning.
A number of the students expressed
themselves as greatly pleased with tho
change and stated that it would as
sist them materially in their work. Tho
change 1b somewhat of an experiment
but it will undoubtedly become per
manent No extra charge was made
for tho re-rogistratlon of tho students.
Tho work of re-registering was com
pleted this evening and the new
Bchedule will be in operation from now
on.
According to tho bulletin board tho
inter-class debating squad will meet to
night In U. 107 at 7:16. Any students
oxpecting to try out in tho coming pre
liminaries for places on tho squad may
attend.

University Club Makes Membership
Rules More 8trlngent.
Much Interest Is being Bhown as the
time approaches for the dramatic club
try-outs. It has been the custom here
tofore for this organization to havo at
least one try-out each semester. This
rule has been changed and there will
bo hereafter but ono try-out in tho
year. ThiB will bo held during the
third week of October.
At ono time all members of tho elo
cution classes were eligible to member
ship. Gradually the rules becamo
more stringent until now It is only tho
few who show by their excellent in
terpretatlons that aro successful In se
curing admittance. In .this way tho
standard of tho club and its ability
to put on commendable productions
has been much strengthened, as was
evidenced by their eight excellent ef
forts last year.
This year higher standards in regard
to both dramatic ability and selection
of subjects for tho try-outs will be
the keynote, 'in the face of this, sur
vival of the fittest," and the new thea
ter and equipment now possessed by
this organization, the students are
looking forward to the coming year as
one filled with moro success and great
er prosperity for these "histronic as
pirants", than over before.
There will be a meeting of the dra
matic club this evening at 8:00 o'clock
at the homo of Miss Bailey, 1937 E
street A business mooting will be
followed by an Informal social. This
meeting will be Important and all
members are urged to be present
Plans for thecoming tryouts and other
Important business' will be transacted.
