The Now York City university objected to her presence; Cornell Insisted that she keep her place as she had won it in fair compe tition. It was finally decided that she sould bo allowed to debate. At the next meeting of tho Intercollegiate Debating League, however, Columbia will Introduce an amendment prohibit ing women from taking part in debates hereafter. Women each year are taking a more prominent place In the professional world, where experience in debating is essential. At the meeting of the Board of Re gents yesterday It was decided that all intercollegiate athletics for women Bhould be forbidden In tho future. Several conflicts among the faculty have occurred on this subject in the past and the Regents decided to put a b top to disputes in the future. A School of Pharmncy was estab lished with Dr. R. A. Lyman as Dean. Tho resignations of P. E. Denny and F. D. Heald were accepted and Miss Leona Walker and MIsb Amanda Beck mann were granted a year s leave of absence. Tho contract was let to Campbell for tho new Veterinarian building at tho Farm. The Regents also authorized the is suance of certificates of graduation to State Farm students and voted to give the printing of the University calendar to tho Journal. Another obstacle to Christianity Is their religion, if it may be called that, Dr. Russol said. They have no churches, no priests and no worship, but believe in witchcraft and transmi gration of souls. Their deity they call the "Great, Great One," much as our Indians believe in the Great Spirit Dr. Russell, in closing, told of the numerous wars, plagues, fevers, and Insect pests which have swept South Africa, making it a land "of great wealth, great problems, and great sorrows." Dr. Russell speaks at the men s Y, M. C. A. meeting at the Oliver Sun dny afternoon and on Monday he will give a lecturo on Soutn Africa, Illus trated by 125 fine lantern slides. Dr. David RuBsell, of Capetown, South Africa, who spoke at special convocation In Memorial Hall yester day, will address the men's meeting of tho Y. M. C. A. in the Oliver Theater Sunday, April 26th, at 3:30 p. m. Dr. Russell is a man of broad experience and a strong speaker. This is the last of the Oliver meetings for this season. All men are urged to be present and make this meeting a record breaker. Dr. Russell has spoken at several of the largest associations In the country and as yet has never disappointed his audiences.
