Tho University has instituted what
is called a college hour, which is a
time set apart each month for the
faculty and student body to meet and
.got together on questions of Univer
sity Interest. This isn't often enough
unless you look at the matter from
the point of view of the faculty mem
ber who receives advice regularly
from his students as to the ability of
other members of the teaching force.
Next Friday occurs another series
of lectures along lines of world poli
tics by a man of international reputa
tion. It Is not talk to say that no
student ought to miss these oppor-

attended by a large number of the
faculty-mid a good many of the dis
tinguished people of the city, but the
students wore a minus quantity.,. Al
most every one -who went at five
o'clock returned In the evening and
were given a treat that is not soon to
be forgotten. Don't miss these things.
Tho conclusion of the girls' basket
ball season jyas more bright than that
of the boys this year. They returned
with a victory and a pleasant visit as
their assets.jaelther of which befell

women have an opportunity to com
pete Intercolleglately ought to be ar
ranged, as it seems to have been this
year, so that no objection from any
point of view can be made to It. Much
credit is due the departments of the3e
two schools in pulling off two such
contests as wo had this year.
Considerable . complaint is heard
about the campus regarding the re
cent ruling of the military department
calling for tan shoes to match the
new olivo drab uniforms. To the in
dividual who had not intended to buy
shoes of just this style the expense
niny seem unnecessary. It has beert
the custom for yenrs that students
should buy second-hand military suits
at a low price, thus reducing the ex
pense of drill. This had continued
until tho appearance of the Battalion
was so poor owing to the old style
and worn-out clothes that it was con
sidered advlsablo to adopt a more up-to-date
uniform. And in order to
make the change as cheap as possible,
men who already owned suits were
nqt forced to make the change. Tan
shoes are, however, absolutely neces
sary to match the new uniform and
so they are being provided at the low
est possible figure. When you stop
to consider that the new uniform re
quires none of the extras necessary
for the old blues, such as white gloves,
blue flannel shirt, white trousers and
compaign hat,, the total cost of the
new outfit is even less than the old
style and the cadets will be even
more apt to get a good price if they
desire to sell out at the end of the
year.
In addition to the need of hav
ing a. decent looking battalion and
the comparative expense of the two
uniforms, the new suit is more sensi
ble. It wears better, can be cleaned
with ordinary care and is much more
comfortable. The battalion is now In
shape to represent the University
with some degree of respectability.
What is the slight inconvenience of
being required to buy a uniform style
of shoe which you can get wear out
of any time as compared with the
comfort and appearance of the whole
battalion?

are proving popular among students
there. The series covers the field of
evolution, and the professor deals ex-

to the doctrine with hls theory of
mutation.
Michigan's faculty has made a new
ruling which .forbids all special stu
dents from participating in college
activities. The ruling Is intended to
effect those who come to the univer
sity, not for work, but merely to take
port in athletics or other activities. '
Michigan students who are under
arres for participation In the recent
riot, received $92.50 from the recent
benefit performance at the Majestic
vaudeville theater. The University
Glee and Mandolin Clubs took part
in tho program. '
Spring football practice began at
Yule yesterday and the candidates
worked under the direction of L. H.
BIglow, captain of the eleven last
fall. It will laBt until the Easter va
cation. The annual punting contest
will be held late In April.
