Is co-education a mistake? Ask the men who wont to the Freshman Hop last night. A one hundred dollar prize Is offered at Northwestern for the best oration by a woman on the subject of woman suffrage. It Is expected that there will be considerable competition and there is certainly enough material on the subject to go around. Notice Is received of a meeting of tho University of Nebraska Club of Washington, D. C. There are a num ber of such organizations over the number of flunks and conditions for last semester indicate that the stu dents need anothor "lapse into the Intellectual." Dartmouth Wins. Dartmouth won the triangular de bate with Williams and Brown on the following question: "Resolved, That In the larger New England cities all tho power of tho city government should bo voBted in a commission of not more than nine men; elected by tho voters at large, without the as sistance of any other representative body." Dartmouth was on the affirmative against Brown, and negative against Williams. Commencement at Northwestern this year is to be held before tho final examination for all except the seniors. Tho plan 1b expected to enrich the commencement, for all tho students will be at the university waiting for exams, instead of having gone home, as has previously been the case. Co lumbia is the only other great univer sity having an arrangement in any way similar. Last Saturday Harvard students had their annual winter track carnival, which had 600 entries. Two hundred and twenty-three individual men took part. There were sixteen events, in cluding sack and potato races, pole climbing, etc. This form of strictly lntra-collegiate games has become very popular at Harvard. It started with scrub basketball, hockey, the fall handicap and other forniB of athletic contests.
