AN IMPROVEMENT. Whethor or not the now system of registration proposed for next year will bo permanently adopted remains to bo seen. It 1b in answer to a long felt difficulty, incident to tho elective syBtom. No student is at present per mitted to register in his freshman year .without some help and the ad vice of a Dean can take into ac count little of the individual needs of tho student. The proposed plan of issuing schedules to studentB request ing them by letter during the summer is excellent. A new student can then havo timo and the necessary informa tion to enable him to plan his course with the help of older students. A plan of tho manner in which a student is to devote his time for a A recent article-in the Outlook calls attention to the many changes in en trance requirements of the universi ties and collegos of the countpy Bince the Institution of the College Founda tion meeting of which Chancellor An drews attended during tne holidays. There t ib a provision in connection with these pensions that limits them to teachers in institutions having en trance requirements tho equivalent of those of state institutions. The effect of tnis stipulation has been to raise the standards in many small schools. Another provision worthy of note is the limitation of pensions to professors in non-sectarian schools. A half dozen or more small colleges for one reason or another allying themselves with some religious de nomination havo thus been obliged to state their exact position in this mat ter and the majority ot Ihom hnvo de clared themsolves non-sectarian. Only those who entered before tho present advisory system was in force can appreciate tho help which students can get under the now plan not only from members of tho faculty, who know tho require ments of tho school, but also from their parents and friends, who know the requirements of the student. A number of students have found fault witn the Junior Prom bulletin in Nebraska Hall; thelihapo 01 the vase doesnt suit them, ror the benefit of such it may bo explained that the drawing is two faced. These bulletins are among the nibst attractive fea tures of our college halls and this one is "particularly attractive. '- Ul'ill . Speaking 01 the difficulty of studying in thjO library, another bad practice among a few students comes to mind. There ' seems to be an idea among students' that the place to go when you are through work is, to tho Library. the young men of our small country towns obtain amusement. The lat ter statement shows a deplorable mis understanding of the nature of the work done at this school. It over looks the study, the, manly men and womenly women who prepare them selves for a useful life work here, the fact, above all others, that not the least efficient of our citizens are men to whom college pranks are a matter of personal experience. While not feeling called upon to give an opinion on the right or wropg of the Chancellor's action, I hereby challenge the assumption of. our friend out in the state that his decision im plies any exceptional Btate of moral turpitude on the part of those concern ed in the affair. ,.
