Last year the Junior and Senior
claBBeB of tho Univorsity electod a
CornhuBker Board to have charge of
this year's publication. ' They seem
now to think that their responsibility
in tho matter has ended. It has not.
Tho board has ex6cutlve charge of tho
book, but there is still much latitude
for claBS help. Just at present the
Cornhusker needs JokeB, cartoons and
stories. If you know a good joke, put
it in the box. Besides this, every or
ganization which is planning for rep
resentation in the book should mnko
Immediate Arrangements for their
pictures and spaco In the book. Such
arrangements can be made by calling
at tho ofllco n the basemont of the
Administration Building.
Work on tho book is progressing
rapidly. Most of the personal write
ups are In. All Juniors and Seniors
who have not handed these in should
not delay in doing so. Only a few
more days will bo allowed by Mr.
Townsond for faking the Individual
pictures.
These matters cannotwalt and every
Junior or Senior interested should at
tend to them at once. ThiB book
should represent the student body arid
not the work of a few members of tho
editorial staff.
The Appalachian Forest Reserve.
Whereas:
There Is a distinct need for proper
forest preservation in view of our
rapidly diminishing forest supplies;
that this policy should especially pre
vail over areas which are preeminent
ly suited for forest growth and of lit
tle economic use; and,
Whereas:
Forests are essential for tho pros
perity of tho nation; that some means
muBt be devised for curbing our reck
less waste of timber and that nieanB
must be provided whereby we may
perpetuate large areas of timber which
will serve in preventing a serious tim
ber famine with a consequent disor
ganization of immense industries in all
portions of tho United States; and,
Whereas:
Tho area proposed for National For
ests in the White Mountains and the
Southern Appalachians is designed to
include forest lands which are of more
value in regulating stream flow han
any other purpose and that tho man
agement of these forests, by the gov
ernment would conclusively provo the
value of conservative forestry meth
ods for the entire United States;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED;
That the Nebraska Park and Forestry
Association does hereby declare itself
heartily In favor of the bill for ac
quiring National Forests in tho White
Mountains and in the Southern Appal
achian Mountains; and, be it it fur
ther resolved,, that a copy of those res
olutions be sent to Secretary of Agrlt
culture Wilson, U. S. Forester Pin
chot, and the Nebraska senators and
Congressmen.
The foregoing was adopted by the
Nebraska Park and Forestry Associa
tion at its annual meeting in Lincoln,
January 23, j908.
