military spirit is an evil, that the pro

national defense a needless extraya

to tho value of military training, I
am admonished to observe its results
in tho development of learning, the
upbuilding of. character, and -the in
dilation of correct ideals of Ameri
can citizenship. Will you permit me
to say, that all "this not only does me
tho greatest injustice, but entirely
misrepresents my actual sentiments?
I am a firm believer in the value, of
military training. Year after year' I
have, in season and out of season de
clared that tho military science and'
