any student has been unable to at

make every effort to be at tho train

strongest foe on our schedule. Many
students havo not developed any great
interest in this gamo because it is not
played at homo and for a further rou

these reasons many do not realize that
Thanksgiving Day's gamo is to be

COUNTY FAIR.
Interesting News About the Annual
Rural Event.
It is generally reported that tho
County Fair to bo given December 7
Ib to be quite tho best of tho Boason.
Several novel foatures aro to bo in
troduced (as usual, but those are to
bo more than usual), for example,
Undo Tom and Little Eva will be
there, which is somothing never, be
fore attempted. An elaborate cast
haB been proparod for the soul-thrilling
spectacle of Undo Tom on the
PIko. All of tho characters of that
justly world-famed melodrama havo
been cast with the exception of two
cakes of ice and a bloodhound. Thero
aro to bo two Topsys, three
"Markses,' four Uncle Toms, besides
a blood-thirsty Logreo with long
drooping muBtashoes, and a little Eva
with wings.
Then, too, the whole family from
Strawberry Point will bo among-thoso
present, Uncle Josh, I think, and I'm
sure Aunt Samanthy, and some of the
children. It'll bo the time of their
lives, for the attractions are super
fine this year. Among others Js to
be the gay little city of Tokio, with
lots of pretty girls and all of the
smells except tho best and sweetest
of. incense. Oh, it'll bo great. Will
be glad to see your smiling face.
Dr. Bessey has recently received n
letter from Dr. John L. Sheldon, '99,
in which he states that ho has been
mado a full professor of botany i at
the University of West Virginia. Dr.
Sheldon took his doctor's degree from
this University in 1903 and was elect
ed shortly ' after plant pathologist at
tho West Virginia experiment station.
When here ho was known as the tall
man of iNobraska.
The Department of Botany has re
ceived a water photometer for use in
measuring the intensity of light under
water. It is very simple, working on
essentially tho same principle as the
regular photometer. A piece of solio
paper is arranged so that it can bo
exposed to the light whon under water.
In this way, when tho length of ex
posure is known the intensity of the
light can be told:
Dr. Bessey will havo an article in
tho next issue of tho University
Studies on the classification of plants.
.Being so husily engaged in Its prepar
ation ,he postponed tho usual Thurs
day evening session of tho Botany
seminar.
