CLA&8 FOOTBALL.
Tho first of tho dories of. Intor
clasa football Rnmen wns played yes
tonlny aftornoon on tho athletic field
and tho spirit and enthusiasm mani
fested sjioakB volumes for tho genu
ineness of class siirlt In this univer
sity. Thoro aro many.unfortunato but
insurmountable (HfTlcuUlos in connec
tion with thoBO games which tend to
le&son their Importanct as part of Unl
vorslty llfo. Tho fact that they occur
during tho school wook when tho time
of many of the students is domanded
by other things cuts tho attendance
down to a figure that does not propor
ly indicate tho IntoroBt folt In tho
cvonts. A further fact is that so much
importance Is attached to tho work of
tho 'varsity that wo have grown ac
customed to think only of them
and rather disregarding tho intor
class teams. Doth departments have
their parts to play tho one gives
among other things tho University
recognition from other schools and
tho thor is a strong faction in cement
ing together tho student body. It is
to bo hoped that tho interost In theso
games continuos undimiBhed and that
all who can well mnko an effort to
attend. The price of admission Is
merely nominal and should be no rea
son for staying away.
Well, If tho subs can hold a team
llko Nobraska this year. What's going
to happen next. Tho abovo 1b a state
ment taken from tho Kansan's last
issue. It illustrates both tho well
known Kansas tactics and tho fact
that they do not know or at least so
ono must believo, that It Is much moro
graceful to acknowledge a fact that ,1b
common knowledge than to "ring In"
such a flimsy excuso as tho abovo. In
caso Nebraska suffers a defeat at the
hands of St. "Louis it is to bo hoped
that such a .spirit of fairness will be
shown, that will at least not permit
a misrepresentation of tho facts.
