Tho Americans are responsible for tho development of a college In Upper Egypt which Is doing so much for tho country thntlt has boen commended by the British govornmnt. It Is known as tho Asslout Training College. It was founded nbout forty years ago, but it now has soven largo two and three story buildings. Its professors come from tho best of our colleges, Includ ing Princeton and Yale. Between 700 and 800 studonts, coming from nil parts of Egypt now attend this school. Tho graduates are influential men, and are sought by the government as clerks, for they nro found to be trust worthy and of a high moral character. While the college is a missionary institution, it gives a good general ed ucation. Tho Egyptians appreciate modern school training and want to go to school. They are partial to tho English Bchools and will pay extra to get a modern education. The president of the college Is Rev. John Alexander, D. D. Ho was edu cated in America, but he has lived In Egypt for nearly a generation. Tho school is ably and economically man aged. This collego Is on tho dormitory plan. Tho most of Its 100 v students live In tho buildings and they aro con tinually under tho eyes of their pro fessors. The training partakes some what of a military order. The boya must not only go to the class rooms, but they have to attend the chapel, tho weekly prayer meeting and tho Sun day school. They are also compelled to take part In college athletics. Twice a week they have to engage in foot ball and tennis, and every effort Is made to develop them along the Hne3 of our civilization. It is said that they study well and that they are doing good work on track and football field. Roy Nelson, 1909, returned to school yeBterday. He has been on a ranch out in Montana during the Bummer.
