Perhaps, there follows some very melo
dramatic semi-tragedy of the streets
where tho newsUby plays hero, saves
the family from starvation nnd does
the Impossible funny thing of pouring
half a sack of salt Into the baby's
soup! Tho pathos and the humor of
such productions are always character
ized by n vast deal of refinement, of
course. And tho performances, are
such as would naturally delight the
trained and cultured tastes of a college
man or woman!
A Nebrasknn reporter once "mak
ing" one of these performances, was
startled at hearing the whisper in his
'ear during an intermission, "Say,
neighbor, What tlhi6 do the saloons
close In this town?" Yet those who
insist most vigorously on the "culture
side of tho University are the very
ones to enjoy most keenly, It would
seem these ton-cent, third-rate, coarse
joke mints.
