A large and enthusiastic audienco of engineering students greeted Dr. Kent yesterday in Memorial Hall at 11 o'clock, when ho gave liis talk on "Steam Boiler Economy." His talk was an Informal one and he entored into his subject with enthusiasm and as one of authority. Ho pointed out the fact that in for mer years when fuel was cheap and it was not necessary to crowd boilers to their maximum capacity, little thought was given to economy in steam boil ers and engineers gave slight consid eration to fuel economy. These times have rapidly changed, and with tho anti-smoke ordinances in the cities and tho Increasing cost of fuel, comoB the necessity of solving the problem of maximum efficiency with minimum cost. He then dwelt nt length upon the several problems entering into the consideration of steam boiler economy and the factors which obtained in their solution and explained the many modern methods of bringing about tho desired results. His talk was clear cut and concise and he hold tho at tention of hiB audience thruout tho entire program. Several engineering men from the city were present at the lecture by Dr. Kent, and expressed themselves as much pleased with his presentation of the subject. At the close of the lecture, Dr. Kent waB taken charge of by Professor Richards, who entertained him, to gether with the other professors of the University who are in tho engin eering department, at a luncheon at his home. In the afternoon he visited tho different departments in tho Uni versity in company with the engineer ing professors and Professor LoBey of the English department, who is an old acquaintance of Dr. Kent. Last night he delivered his lecture on "Educa tion for Life and for Life Work." in Memorial Hall at 8 o'clock. PRELIMINARIES. Freshmen Getting Ready to Go to Morningslde.
