Entored at tho postofflco at Lincoln,
Nebraska, as second-class mall matter
undor tho Act of Congress of March 3,
1879.
CHEAP FAME.
Tho capture of tho Freahman mas
ter of ceremonies by tho Sophomores
Beems to be tho direct result of a de
luded state of mind. This act, like all
other similar outbreaks af lower class
man enthusiasm of tho last two years,
Is a direct bid for "cheap" notoriety
and University horo-worBhlp.
The students who carry out these
kidnapping "stunts" usually are seek
ing to accomplish something that will
cause their names to be published in
the local papers and spread about
school so that thoy will be in the pub
lic eyo among the three thousand stu-
tlme sot for the class function, and
then allowing him to escape in time to
discharge his duties as a member of
the dance committee. Such things
havo gone beyond endurance and now
only the people with deluded minds
stoop to perpetuate them. Thero is
one motive, howevor, which would
make theso kidnapping "stunts" by
tho lower classmen justifiable.
If tho purpose of either cosb were
to advortlso tho dance of the other by
drawing tho attention of the public to
the function rather than to kidnap
ping, then it could be tolerated.
When it is clear, however, that the
lower classmen aro seeking to securo
"cheap" fame and not to advertise
their dance their action must be con
demned.

of construction, has gone to tho sub
station at North Platte to superintend
