As In previous years, the Westing
house Electric and Manufacturing
Company, of Pittsburg, Penn., has an
nounced its Engineering Apprentice
Course for the coming year. It Is the
desire of the company to enlist a num
ber of graduates of technical schools
and universities In this course. They
will be placed In the shops and labora
tories of the company, whore they will
be onnbled to obtnln practical training
In the various branches. . In this
course the work of tho technical school
will besupplemented by practical train
ing in both mechanical and electrical
engineering, and at tho end of a two
years apprenticeship, the students who
have shown the proper aptness, will
be placed In various responsible posi
tions with the company In their many
plants thruout the United States.
Tho apprentice will continue work
in the course until he hns prepared
himself for filling the regular positions
mentioned, and in no case will he be
expected to remain in the apprentice
ship for a period of more than two'
years. Tho pay for 'the first year of
apprenticeship will be 16 cents per
hour, while that for the second yoar
will be 18 cents per hour.
Each Btudent Is placed on probation
for tho first three months. At the end
of this time, each applicant must exe
cute with the company a regular form
of agreement covering the entire term
of tho coursd. During this term of pro
bation, ns well as during the whole
time of apprenticeship, the company
reserves the right to- discharge any
student, for misbehavior, Inattention
to duty, or for any like cause. It Is ex
pected that several of this year's grad
uates from the engineering courses in
tho University will avail themselves
of the opportunities afforded by this
course.
