Prospects, as they appear from an
early season standpoint, aro excellent
for a basketball team at Nebraska
this year which will be a real suc
cess. Wo believe that the team as it
lines up at present is as thoroly rep
lesentatlvo of the University and of
Nebraska athletics, as any simfliar
aggregation has ever been. Its mem
bers aro gentlemen in every sense of
tho word and there is not tho slight
est question as to their ability- as

to an article appearing in yesterday's

"As a student interested in clean '
athletics, I wish to object to tho Bug-1
gostion made yesterday in your col-1
uinns, that Lincoln business men be
asked to contribute to a stock com-'
pany, to buy or operate an auueuc
field for the University. It is true that
tho moneyed men of Lincoln aro many
of them directly benefitted by the
largo games played on Nebraska
Field, and it might accordingly bo i
thought fair that they contribute In '
this crisis-to tho securing of a field,
which alone makes athletics possible.
"Lead us not into temptation," is tho i
basis on which I object to tho stock
company sclieme. 1 do not think tho
school can afford to snydicato its ath
letics In any manner that will allow i
any persons but students and faculty i
to have a voice In their management
and control. For this position the fol
lowing reasons aro presented:
"1. Tfie pressure on manager nnd
coach to make a winning team, in or
der to attract the crowds and pay
expenses, is chiefly responsible for
the professionalism, direct and Indi
rect, that has arisen very genorally
in college athletics In reccmt years.

mercial phase or the game, or that
will increase tho financial pressure on
