but hazy at tho best.
It 1b not our purposo in this brl
- article to attempt to oven outline what
the Settlement is, and has , been
doing in a philanthropic way
among tho poor of Lincoln, rfor to give
elaborate proof of tho fact that the
University is constantly gaining pres
tige and is constantly becoming of
greater, .practical value to the Btate
' thru Its Settlement affiliations. Wo
merely wish to state that such is the
case and draw our moral from It in
. connection with' tho coming benefit.
The University Is back of tho Set
tlement work officially. Tho Univer
sity is mado up chiefly of its student
body, The members of this student
body are" therefore the persons who
'are, and should be, most interested in
.the advancement of the cause, to say
nothing "of tho maintenance of the
present standard of excellence. To
accomplish either or both of those
. conditions the Settlement must have
moro funds than are available at pres
ent. Tho performance of the Swedish
dancers is a means to this ond and
matter of securing other quarters for
athletic sports and. Michigan has to
day ono of the finest athletic fields In
tho west. In recognition of tho work
of tho Board this is. known as Regents'
Field. Will not our Board of Regents
follow this admirable example.
