MR. 8TEVEN8 IN RECITAL.
Instructor From School of Music
8cores Hit at Convocation.
The appearance of Mr. Robert Ste
vens In piano recital at Convocation
yesterday morning was nothing less
than a triumph. University students
aro so familial with the piano playing
of a highly technical nnture which
lacks any emotional touch, that It Is
dlfllcult to enthuse them over even
the best of local performers.
This was distinctly not the case yes
terday morning, for Mr. Stevens re
ceived the enthusiastic approval he
richly deserved. Mr. Stevens Is a mas
ter of technique, but more than this,
ho 1b sympathetic in his renditions to
a high degree. The gem of hlB pro!
gram yostorday morning was an Etude
by Qottschalk, altho a March by Hol
lander deserved high commendation.
A pleasing feature of his program
was Mi Stevens' rendition of a "hu
morous" selection, whlph brought
down the house. This willingness to
break away from the bonds of classic
Ism for the pleasure of an audience
which is notoriously fond of light
music, as well as his straightforward
and unaffected manner while at tho
piano, won tho enthusiastic approval
of all his hearers
It is to bo hoped that Mr. Stevens
may be perusaded to appeaf again at
Convocation with a "popular request"
recital at some time in the near fu
ture. The program for the recital ren
dered by Mr. Stevens yesterday was
as follows:
March Hollander
Toccata Sgambatl
Etude Gottschalk
Delngedenken JenBen
Caprice Espagnol MoskowskI
