A FEW ADMONITIONS.
Just at this juncturo vl tho school
yonr whon everybody la jubilant over
tho good tlmo thoy had (luring tho
holiday recosB itnd tho Htlll hotter tlmo
which uwnltH them In tho guise of final
, examinations two weeks hence, a few
admonitions seem In order. Tho fol
lowing dont's are, thoroforo, appended
with tuo slncero hopo that thoy will
be received in tho same spirit with
which tnoy aro given:
First: Don't attend classes any
moro than you absolutoly have to. The
rovlows which will bo given In all tho
dopartmonts between now and exam
.wook aro of practically no value what
ovor to tho "wlao" Btudent and can
thoroforo bo skipped with Impunity.
Noxt; Don't, If you can possibly
GOOD WORK, FRESHMEN.
Tho first yenr class, moro than any
other in in tho Unlvorslty, is proving
that it has tho proper idea pervading
Its organization. This evening for tho
tlrtrd or fourth time in tho ono Bomes
tor, weather permitting, tho Freshmen
aro to hold a strictly formal class
party for tho primary purpose, not of
lepalng financial reward, but of es
tablishing between Its members a real
social bond.
Only too often in tho history of tho
University has tho machinery of class
organization been employed for tho
benefit of a fortunate fow at the
expense of the powerless majority.
Only too often have clique Interests
prevailed where "Democracy" should
havebben tho watchword. Some
classeshavo entered and passed out
of tho University without any vital
bondB betwceiTtheir members.
This stato of affairs is Biiroly ono to
bo avoided, and tho first year class has
takon tho proper means to a highly
desirable end. If tho Inception of the
various affairs of tho term has been
in tho mind of their president, tho
Freshmen are to be congratulated
upon their choice. If they can do as
well for Iho next somester, thoy may
deem thomsolves exceptionally for
ttjnato. If, on tho other hand,' the idea Is
ono which provallB thruout tho class,
wo predict a career for 1910 which
Its members will have excellent cause,
to remomber. At any rate, tho other
classes in the University should not i
bo slow to recognize the value of what
tho Freshmen aro accomplishing and
to profit by tholr example.
Mr. Ballard Withdraws.
Tho fourth resignation from tho
Btaft of Tho Nebraskan came yester
day afternoon when Mr. Ballard, tho

his withdrawal from work on the paper
during tho second semester. His plea
