Fourteen Performers to GlVe Benefit
for College Settlement.
A troup or fourteen National Swed
ish dancers from Skansen, Stockholm,
will present a program of old Swedish
folk-danceB for the heneflt of tho Col
logo Settlement in Memorial Hall on
the evening of Friday, January 18,
1907. Tho dancers will bo In pro
vincial costumos and will dance to
tho music of two of their number who
nre fiddlers.
This troup is the only one of Its
kind in existence and Its performance
comes very highly recommended by
eastern critics. Its entertainment is
unlquo and has drawn largo audiences
wherever presented.
Tho price for tho evening will be
fifty cents and this will insure re
served seats. Tickets may be secured
after tho holidays from any member
of tho College Settlement Board.
AN INTERESTING REPORT.
E. E. Blackman Contributes Indian
Stories to State Document.
In the State 'Agricultural report for
1905, just out, appears the State His
torical Society's Archaeological Re
port by E. E. Blackman. Some par
ticularly interesting and authentic sto
rios of early famous Indians are given.
One is told of Blackbird, who was
possibly the most famous Indian Ne
braska 'has produced. When Black
bird camo to die he asked that he
might ho buried on the highest point
overlooking the Missouri River, in or
der that he might welcome the white
men when they came. Blackbird had
seen a few white men and liked them,
but he alone of all his people realized
that tho "pale face" was coming to
occupy tho Indian land. Blackbird
died In tho year J.800.
"No more disgraceful placards ' on
the walls of Purdue." The authorities
of that institution have abolished the
bulletin boards 'and hereafter all offi
cial announcements will bo published
in the student dally.
