Iti tho excitement over football nt Nebraska, thoro haB been comparu lively little notice taken of the candi dates for, cross-country honors. These men, who lire ns truly representative of Nebraska na nro our football war riors, have brought victory to Hho Cornhusker camp In contest with rep resentatives from tho Universities of Chicago and Wisconsin. Wo are proud of our cross-country loam. Its members have trained long and faithfully and tholr victory Is no accident. They Imvo sustained the athletic reputation of our Institution and tho University owes them appre ciation In large measure. May they be made to feel that their feat has not 0020SXOOffiOX3 i n HM1ETT, Jewoler - passed unnoticed, but rather that In tholr victory wo find a largo degree of j consolation for our defeat upon tho j gridiron. WELL DONE. Tho results, of the rulings of tho interfraternity council 'in tho regula- tion of fraternity rushing, pledging, and initiating, nro so excellent, as j viewed after un observation of two ', months and a" half that they deserve' A tH a word of favorable comment. ThejSCoroof 12 to o, Nebraska's goal line rules were adopted by tho fraternities remaining uncrossed. with many misgivings. It was thought they would work an unnecessary hard ship on tho fraternities without any compensating gain nnd there was some question as to whether there would not be secret rushing nnd pledg ing in. spite of an agreement to tho contrary. Experience has proved that all ob jectlons wero unfounded. For tho un - necessary hardship argument thero Is tho answer that two months nnd a, half Is not a day too long to give the Freshman a. chance to adjust himself1 to ills surrqundlngB and to determine, his ideas on the fraternity question. More than this, It gives the fraterni ties the time that will prevent the premnture pledging of a man who is bound to provo a "gold brick," as fra ternity parlance has It. The fenr of secret rushing has proved to be absolutely without con firmation so far as wo can determine. We believe that every fraternity has entered Into the compact determined to give the new system a thoro try out and has adhered strictly to the rulings as adopted and interpreted by the interfraternify council. We be lieve, furthermore, thnt evory frater nity is convinced of tho superiority of the new system over the old and will gladly consent to n continuation of Its requirements. Por tho first time In the history of tho University, all of tho first year men who have been pledged fire repre sentative Uulvorsity Btudents. In this one particular of Improved scholastic rating required of candidates for fraternity membership, an Immense step forward has been taken in fra ternity standing. Never can tho frater nities attain the position of Influence that they deserve until they recognize frankly that tlioy cannot afford to havo mombors who are chronic Hunkers. Tho rules this year have effected a slight reform along this line and arc therefore well worth while, If for no other reason. It Is certainly to be hoped that the fraternities will continuo their support of tho actions of tho Interfraternity council. If tlujy do, the possibility can never again arise, as it did last year, of University action for the abolishment of fraternities' at Nebraska. Pennants will bo on sale at the Y. W.
