By University dances and parties we mean only those func tions given for the patronage of tho University public but these are num erous enough to merit serious atten tion. There is no possible reason why re ports should not bo made' public and there xare good reasons why they should. CHANGES IN U8E OF LIBRARY. . . ttv Librarian Jewett Announces Recent Action of Library Board. Tho following letter to the Ncbras kan from Librarian Jewett is self ex planatory: Lincoln, Neb., Oct. 29. 190G. To tho Editors of tho Dally Nebras kan: At a meeting of the Library Board hold October 2G, two measures wore passed which aro of interest to tho student body. It was voted that here after tho dally newspapers bo sent nt oncoto tho department of rhetoric for the use oftho class in journalism, without being ulsplayed in the reading room as heretofore It . is, felt by members of tho Board thatthe furn ishing of dnily papers for tho students to read Is not properly tho function, of a college library. Moreover, the State Historical Society in its rooms, in Library Hall, receives a much larger number of papers, which It in vites the students to make use of at their convenience. Tho Board alho directed the Librar ian to announce that it deprecates the use of tho Library reading room as a place of general resort for the under- ff a $3.50 hat is a fool. price is $2.50. $2.50 My hats are the for $2.50. Tho room is intended for the use of t,hoBo who come to con sult tho Library, and it is regarded as unjust to these readers that they should bo crowded and disturbed by largo numbers of students who fro quont tho room for other purposes. -The opinion has recently been ex pressed that tho seating capacity in the reading room is insufficient and that tho building should therefore be enlarged. Tho Board considers that the seating capacity is ample for logitimato UBors of tho Library, and that tho proper remedy is for others to remain away. During tho evening hours this a imperative. It is ex pected that tho opening of tho Temple will furnish a solution for this prob lem and offer tho kind of accommoda tions now so urgently needed. WALTER K.
