A NEW LEA8E OF LIFE.
At tho closo of tho school year 1905
1006 tho Dally. Nobrnskan was loft in
a somewhat disorganized condition.
Tho stoclc of tho paper, which had
previously boon In prlvato hands, was
purchasod by tho Board of Regents
and direct control of tho paper was
vested In -tho Publication Board. Elec
tion to tho staff of tho papor was de-
forrod until tho beginning of tho
present yoar with tho oxcoptlon of
tho Edltor-in-Chlof and Managing Edi
tor. Notwithstanding tho doubtful pros-

8ANE SPELLING.
College journals, especially in tho
largest and most influential of our
universities, should reflect in their
columns any reform In journalism that
owes Its origin to tho caroful study
of compotent mon. Such a reform is
tho "Sane Spelling" of which Chan
cellor Andrews spoko In convocation
this morning.
Wo have given a resumo of tho ar
guments in favor of .tho adoption of.
spelling as advocated by tho Slmpll
fled Spelling Board, olsowhore .in thlri
isue, and nothing furthor needs to bo
said in our estimation. Wo simply
wlBh to state our policy for tho yoar
In this connection.
So far as it is possible tho Daily
Nebraskan lntonds to uso tho slmpll
fled spelling of tho three hundred
words already proposed by tho Board,
In nil of Its items, whether news or
editorial. This will necessitate extra
proof reading for a time and possibly
will produce somo confusion between
tho now spelling and tho ordinary
method. Wo hopo to ovorcomo both of
theso difficulties In a short time, how
over, and remain consistently re
formed. As Chancellor Andrews said this
morning, "Tho Dally Nebraskan has
set tho advance pace In tho field of
college journalism ,by adopting 'Sane
Spelling.' Such progresslvoness on
tho part of your own college paper
merits encouragement from you. Sub
scribe for the Dally Nebraskan and
promoto the good causo'ot spoiling reform."
