Tho mass meeting held In Memorial
Hall thlB morning for tho Glee and
Mandolin Clubs should1 be attended by
overy Btudont of tho University of Ne
braBha. This will bo a meeting qulto
different from, any that has been hold
heretofore, but It promises to bo ono
of tho moat enthusiastic over given.
Several short speeches will bo given,
as x well na selections by the clubs.
Now, do not lot prejudices keep you

Within tho last few years thoro Is
ono word' which has attained a groat
promlnenco In tho English language.
This first appeared In American poli
tics, and since Its appcaranco has be
come such a hobby of all political
writers" sUiat It Is Impossible now io
speak of politics without tho uso of
this word. So great hii8 boon Its popu
larity that It has at last broken Into
University llfo and It "seems to bo the
watchword of every student manager
at the present time. Wo refer to the
word "graft" as it is used so promis
cuously. It matters not how hard1 any student
may try to do things In an honest and
upright way, yet they howl' "graft" at
him. If ho does not graft he is gen
erally considered a plain and simple
fool for bolng so easy. This Is tho
spirit that encourages graft and tho
student manager generally thinks they
expect It of mo, so I might as well do
It That such an opinion should pre
vail In a Univorstly 1b a disgrace. It
seems queer that a student cannot
meet a student In friendly -transaction
wdthout In some way stooping to un
fair means.
Tho tlmo" Is to come when student
management In University affairs Is to
bo sot down upon, and that hard. The
thing has been carried just about aB
far as' public sentiment is going to per
'mlt. When this time does como wo
' o
hope to see the University appoint h
.committee from tho faculty that will
eo thoroughly Investigate overy report
of studont. management that it will be
immediately crushed out Tho sooner
suck a state Is brought about the bet
ter Is it for the student b.ody and the
University. The committee of, censor
ship would bo a means of bringing
Volunteer Band.
Tho Volunteer Band 1b ono of the
ontorprlzes of our University of whlch
littlo Is heard. In fact, Very few peo
plo know of such an organization. Its
purpose la primarily tho promotion of
foreign missions among tho students.
Thoro has been twenty-six young 'men
and women who have gone from our
institution to tho foreign field. At tho
present time there are nineteen men
and women who have declared as
their purpose to carry tho religion of
Jesus Christ to those who do not have
tho privileges which we enjoy. The
Band1 has a meeting each week at
which missionary Interests aro dis
cussed. These meetings aro very In
teresting, not only for tho spiritual
help ono gets thoro, but also for tho
Information received' from missionaries
all over tho world. Tho meetings are
hold overy Thursday evening at eight
o'clock In the Young Women's Chris
tian Association rooms, and' all who
so deslro aro cordially invited to como.
Tho meeting for Thursday, April 5,
will bo held nt 8:30 o'clock instead of

i The Department of Mathematics haj
arranged tho course In Mathematics 1
so that nothing but Calculus will be
taken up In this course. Horotoforo It
has been the custom to study tho fin
ishing touches of Analytics jointly
with Calculus. Three days each weeit
woro devoted to Calculus and two to
Analytics. It was found by this ar
rangement that tho students did not
.get a good1 clear understanding of the
ef sentlal parts of tho Calculus, and as
this Is the study most needed In tho
engineering courses, It was decided to
drop the Analytics with Mathematics
3 and devote the entire Bomcstor to the
Calculus. This change meets with the
hearty approval of the students.
All students know Miss Maud Ken
