Tho Freshman politicians havo got
ten down to work, and many aro the
aspirants for tho presidency of tho
class. Evon tho question aa to whether
their natural enemies, tho Sophs, are
going to got into tho first mooting or
not Is causing tho now students less
concern than the question of their
first leader.
In former years thoro has invariably
boon a combination of tho Omaha and
Lincoln forces which has brought about
an election of a Lincoln man to tho
presidency tho first semester and an
Omaha man tho second. This year the
usual arrangomont is looked for, al
though at present tho two parties aro
divided and each is supporting a can
didate of Its own. Tho Lincoln aggre
gation Is pushing Miller Benedict for
tho first place, while Omaha seoms to
havo gotten togother on Patterson, and
aro pushing him hard for tho position.
Thoro havo always been a number
of aspirants from other towns through
out tho state, but they hayo never
mado much difference In tho result
heretofore. This has beon duo to tho
fact that tho students from the two
larger towns havo always .known each
other and havo beon moro readily or
ganized for action, whereas tho re3t
of tho class comes from a largo num
ber of small high schools, .and has
boon, unable to combine on. any one
man. If such a combination could bo
made, It would doubtlessly win out,
for tho outsldo students are In a largo
majority.
This year It looks as though such
Is going to bo Uie case. Several astute
politicians from small tdwns have got
ton togothor and havo organized prac
tically tho entire class, aside from
those who come from tho two cities, in
confident of success In their effort to
break down tho I incol-Omaha com
bination. Tho candidate on whom this
third party has decided Is Clyde Elliott
of Central City. The triangular race
should bo very clo3o, and will be
watched with interest by others than.

older students who were unfortunate
enough as not to have "graduated from
the Omaha 6t Lincoln High Schools.

Interest In debating continues to
