Up to this year politics have not en tered the Debating association elec tions; in fact members nominated foi office have been elected with little opposition. But this election id characterized by nenrly as much elec tioneering as the athletic boaid eleil .tions To an observing y groups o! debaters will be seen around the campus, talking earnestly and gestur ing vigorously, and It is evident that something will be doing Friday atter noon. The extension of membership this year has brought many new members, and w Ith them some- ladical attempts in the way of nominations for office. At present thetc seems to be two cliques In the field, championing the cause of a certain "ticket." One group held a caucus Monday evening and decided on the nominations of several members for officers The list appeals unfavorably to the other members, who have determined to nominate and eleit their own tavor Ites. The officers to be elected are presi dent, vice president, secretary and senator. These four offices represent the Debating association on t lie De bating board, which is composed of slv members of the faculty a.ul the four student members You can make more money belling "The New International Encyclopedia" during the summer than on any othei proposition. CHICAGOA WINNER Shuts Out Nebraska to the Tune of 4 to 0. .Second l)rt Knr Hie Conihukr oh Tliclr Kattorn Trip. The Varsity met defeat yesterday at the hands of Chicago univeislty by a score or i to 0. The Chicago toam has evidently limbered up some since they played Iown or they would have never been able to shutout Bender's ColtH. This makes two victories nnd two de feats for tho Varsity since they left the tall grass and wended their wny over the Eastern baseball lawns. Morse pitched for the Varsity yesterday and did good work. But the frisky boys of the Windy City seemed to be nble to straighten out a few of his curves, or place a cuspidor over IiIh "spit balls." so that In the end they looked more llko hits to the players than strlkc outs. The Varsity's batting clothes have evidently got a few wrinkles In them during the trip, and the rabbit's foot must have dropped off Bender's watch chain yesterday into the turbu lent waters or Lake Michigan. The Maroons have lost their hoodoo lent waters of Lake Michigan. In lh Maroons have lost their hoodoo, which followed them to Wisconsin and Iowa and ounded out a clean victory been n little more generous and let the wind blow a few corn seeds Into the eyes or those nimble Chlcagoans. we could have claimed victory Tor our I art or the game Instead or defeat.
