Word has been received that Victor
H Yont, a graduate of the university
with the class of '03, employed in the
test department of the General Elec
trical company of Schnectady, N. Y.,
was electrocuted Thursday evening by
coming in contact with a transformer
carrying 0,000 volts. Mr Yont grad
uated from the University in 1903,
taking the degrees of IJ. A. and H. S.
C in the same year. He was a player
on the 'Varsity football team while in
college His home was in Brock, Ne
braska He has two sisters in the

Engineering Notes.
Prof Richards went to Grand Island
to inspect and take a ride on the new
lr P. gasoline motor car. This car is
used for passenger transportation on
a Lranch toad
A great many trade catalogues and
other descriptive matter of modern
steam engineering practice have been
distributed by "Prof. Richards among
his classes
Mr R D. Smith, superintendent of
motle power of the C, B. & Q., has
written Prof Richards to ask if any

The mechanical engineering depart
ment has received an appropriation for
the addition of ten more torges and
thirty bene lies equipped with tools, to

plant on the campus, has just com
pleted a Wimhurst static machine for
the electrical engineering department
This- machine is designated for the
purpose of testing of Crooke's tubes,
X-Ray apparatus, .etc., and will give
a spark of one and one-half inches in
strength under ordinary conditions.
Professors and students of the en
gineering department will regret to
know that G. W. Rhoder, superinten
dent of the Wyoming division of the
Burlington, has resigned. Mr. Rhodes
has extended many courtesies to the
University not the least of which was
the recent presentation of a number
o technical to the engineering 11
brar. Another botany student has secured
a good position. This time It Is one
ot the girls. Miss Hensel, who has
Leen Fellow in Botany for the past
three years, and who will take her
Ph.D. in June, has been elected to a
line position iu Lead City high school
at a salary of one thousand dollars a
year.
The Students' Debating club will
meet at the usual time and place to
night. The question Is "Resolved;
That the U. S. government should lm-
