Editorial Remarks
Prom, a Success.
From every point but that of attend
ance the Senior Prom, which was held
Friday night at the Lincoln was a
decided success. Music, decoratlonb
and refieshmcnts were better than the
ordinary. Dancing was. begun early
enough to prove the excellence of a
less number as compared to a greater
number of dances on tho program.

Fraternity Legislation
Some queer bills have recently come
up In tho legislatures of several
etatcB. An attempt was made to make
the playing of football a crime, to dis
qualify a football player for Injuring
another player, and now there Is a bill
In tho Minnesota legl8lnlrto, abolish
Creole letter societies Itrthe University
of Minnesota. The Dally Mlnnesotan
contains tho following Interview with
Piesldcnt Fauncc of Brown University,
and the opinion of a supporter of the
antl-fiaternlty bill:
"The bill Introduced Into the legisla
ture to abolish fraternities lias suc
ceeded in again arousing the oft
mooted question.
"President Fauncc in an Interview
published In a city paper ably Hums up
the situation:
'In the eastern colleges, the frater
nity and sorority aie held In high es
teem, particularly those which have
a definite aim towurd which they are
striving. I find In my work as presi
dent of Brown tho strongost backing
from the fraternities in the institution
and it has been my pleasure to give
such moral support to them as I am
able.
'I might name numerous Instances
whore had I not the support of the fra
ternity men I would have been at an
utter loan to know haw to have settled
the matter in hand equitable to all
concerned.
'The fraternities are to my mlnu
one of the greatest influences In the
colleges of this country. They can
have Influence for good or evil. They
develop a man in countless Instances
wheie no other force could have drawn
him out. The atmosphere surrounding
the college fraternity life Is such that
tho most lasting friendships are there
culminated, friendships ending with
death.
No, I cannot say that ft would be
advisable to abolish the fraternity In
tho university and college of this
country.'
"Opposed to this opinion is the fol
lowing rather extieme views held by
an unnamed follower of Representative
Kachle.
