night by a score of 45 to 41. Tho last
event, tho pole vault, was the event
which decided tho contest, Norrls of
Illinois clearing the bar at 11 feet, 3 1-8
inches.
In tho swimming contest between
the Central Y. M. C. A. of Chicago and
University of Wisconsin teams, II. J.
Handy of the former has broken the
world's record for fifty yards on the
back, making tho distance in 35 3-5
seconds. The former record was 3G 1-5
seconds.

forty-six college football captains
chosen since the last season closed,
in tho East and Middlo West, twenty
three are lino men and twenty-three
nre backs. Only ono center and four
guards have been elected. Tho tackles
number ten, the quarterbacks five and
the halfbacks and fullbacks eight.
President Harper of tho University
of Chicago, In his annual report, advo
cates the abolition of Thanksgiving
football games. He says: "Tho abol
ition of Thanksgiving football games
in western colleges is recommended.
II 48 with reluctance and1 regret that
Thanksgiving as a day for home turn
ing and family reunion is being de
stroyed, and especially tho attitude
tuken toward the matter by the col
leges in destroying these characteris
tics. It is recommended that the last
football game be held on Saturday
preceding Thanksgiving, as at eastern
colleges."
