in Pharmaccutal Botany a lecture on

Professor Brtiner, of the Department
of Entomology, will he unable to meet

hygrometer yesterday to replace the
one which had provon to bo so un
trustworthy. It Is now being tested by
Professor Loveland of the Weather
Burean, who will make a report on It
after a thorough series of tests.
Superintendent of Construction
Chowlns Is now receiving bids on about
twenty-eight hundred feet of covering
for the steam pipes on the campus.
Bids will -be submitted. by three or four
largo manufacturing establishments
over the country. The covering will be
used on tho plpeB to the physics, chem
istry and library buildings.
The association for maintaining the

written thesis by a woman on a sclen- I
tlfic subject. It Is to embody new ob
servations and now conclusions based
on independent laboratory research in
biological, chemical or physical sci
ence. These thesis must be In the
hands of Mrs. Helen H. Richards,
Massachusetts institute of Technology,
Boston, befoie December 31, 1905. This
prize will be awarded at tho annual
meeting in 1907. Ex.
Illinois defeated Indiana in the sev
enth ajinual Inteistate debate Friday
evening. The greatest enthusiasm pre
vailed and in many respects it was the
greatest debate over held In Urbana.
The" tjirestlon was upon the ship sub
sidy. The debate between Iowa and Min
nesota held at Iowa City last Friday
resulted in a tie. One of the judges
for some reason failed to appear and
thotwo remaining judges wore unable
to agree on a decision, one favoring
tho affirmative md the other tho neg
ative. It Is announced that a joint de
bate will bo hold again at Minneapolis
on tho 17 of March. Tho question was
on tho Federal Regulation of Freight
Rates.
