Engineering Notes.
T. SammonB, Mechanics Arts, '03,
wns a visitor on tho campus this wcok.
Professor Swcezy is considering the
possibility of designing a twelve-Inch
toloscopo and has secured the co-operation
of tho shop department to build
the mountings.
The Department of Mechanical En
gineering has purchased a gas blast
.furnace to be used In all Mnds of tem
pering and hardening of tools. This
will bo very valuable in the machine
shops as a greater vnriety of tools can
bo made.
The students in tho machine shops
nre building twouty-fivo complete wood
turning lathos, to bo used In the wood
shops. It will require considerable
time for their completion. Tho de
partment has finished Kome first-class
machines, notably the shaper which
was built last year at a considorablo
saving over tho cost If It had been
bought complete.
At tho meeting of the Engineering
Society last Wednesday evening, after
tho usual business, L. E. Hurtz, '03, of
the Lincoln Gas and Electric Co., gave
n very Interesting talk on tho Nernst
elect! ic light. Ho explained In detail
tho construction of tho lamp and ex.
