Professor O. E. Condra has recently
completed a treatise on "The General
Geology and Water Resources of
Southwestern Nebraska," prepared at
tho request of the United States geo
logical survey. Tho work has required
a great amount of study and field work
and tho bulletin which will be issuod
In about a year will be of great inter
est to the people of the state.
Not much progress has yet been
made with the Senior Play. The cop
ies of tho play decided upon have not
yet been received and until then tho
play committee cannot finally decide
upon the cast of characters. Last year
the Senior Play rehearsals were well
under way before this time, and tho
unavoidable lateness In beginning will
make faithful work absolutely neces
sary from thoEe who are chosen.
Dr. Condra gave a short talk on the
city Y. M. C. A. and ItB benefits at the
Academy chapel last Monday. The
doctor dwelled to some extent on the
work that tho Y. M. C. A. is doing for
tho young men. of the city and urged
the Academy students to join and en
joy its benefits. He spoke especially
of the athletic side of the association
and urged the Academy boys to or
ganb.o a basketball team. As a result
of his talk tho men of tho Academy
have decided to get up a basketball
team. So far about a dozen have sig
nified their intention of playing and
two teams are assured.
A fine collection of sand-line bricke
made by tho Iluennecko system was
received by the Department of Geo
logy last week. The bricks are corn
nosed of 95 per cent of sand and 5 pei
cent of lime. Tho process of manufac
ture requires no heat or burning. The
collection has attracted considerable
attontion, and several Nebraska men
havo gone east to visit tho Chicago
branch of tho establishment with a
view to establishing plants in Nebras
ka Professor Barbour has collected
and sent several kinds of Nebraska
sands and sent east for testing pur

STUDENTS' DEBATING CLUB.
There has been "something doing"
in the Students' Debating Club since
tho inauguration of the new officers.
The dying embers of the forensic fire
of last semester have been fanned into
life and last Saturday evening wit
nessed a blaze of interest and enthu
siasm such as has never been seen In
the University within the last two
years.
Tomorrow evening the regular meet
ing of the club will be held in Union
hall. The program committee have an
nounced the following program:
Parliamentary Drill.
Extemporaneous Speech.
Debate: Resolved, That Immigra
tion to the United States should be
restricted by an educational qualifica
tion and a capitation tax of $25.

An amendment to the by-laws' will
be voted upon at this meeting.
SOPHOMORE PLAY.
The Sophomore play, a three act
comedy drama entitled, "A Rank De
cision," will be given in Memorial hall
Saturday evening, Feb. 15. The storj
of the play Is founded on tho late
Spanish-American war and the plot Is
vi ry clever and humorous. Specialties
between the acts will add to the enter
tainment of the evening. A small ad
mission will be charged to defray ex
penses of the production.
Senior Annual.
The mateilal for tho Senior annual
is almost ready for the press. The
editor and business manager have
found that they can not make the qual
itj of book that they desire without a
larger sale than tho book has hereto
fore demanded. They have according
ly issued a circular letter, which they
are mailing to members of the senior
class, stating tho proposition plainly
and asking members of the class to
pledge themselves to sell two or more
copies of the annual. The circular let
ter says in part:
"A book equal to that of last year
can easily bo put out, with no financial
loss, estimating a sale of one hundred
and fifty copies at 75c apiece. Or, if
three hundred copies bo put out at the
same price per copy, it is very proba
ble that Albertypes can be substituted
for half tones, as was done in the
Law Book of last year; also, a second
new feature can bo introduced in the
shape of a cloth-board binding such
ay is used on tho Sombrero. Evidently
the deflnlto co-operation of the whole
class is needed, and, if given, will make
possible tho best Senior Annual yet
published at tho U. of N "
