A movement toward iadial rclorni niii.v fall short of u i omplishing icfoim through lark of leadeis or through lm U o; support. Although our head was not among them the proposed refoim hi ought so suddenly before the studeu1 body a week ago did not lack of faculty leaders. Had fatuity eloquence and (ainestnoss alone been in'i e-sary to ac complish it, the honor system would now ho firmly established among us. Hut faculty leadership, in this instance, never could have succeeded. The move ment wus ono to reform the student body and to bo effective had to be lead mtiflt not bo forced, nor coaxed, it must exist because of its very nature. - It In a question whether the tempor ary prick to tho moral conscience ad ministered by this recent stir has been worth the while. Much undue notorlo ty has resulted therefrom and no toriety always pictures things more lurid than they really are. Wo aro not vvorso than others, nor nearly so bad n Borne, but this is, of course, overlooked and tho fact that there was wrong here remembered when tho fact that there Is wrong everywhere is forgotten.. And yet our duty Is plain. To cheat, to resort to unfair methods, is wrong, absolutely, and the cheater hurts him self. If we cheat ourselves wo will cheat others. If we are honorablo to ourselves we will bo honorablo to others. It is purely a question of self. State Senator Cunningham has in tioduced a bill in tho senate to make the playing of football in Nebraska a t rime, punishable by imprisonment in the penitentiary. Some facetious Iowan Fdikes a popular chord "when he says that in Senator Cunningham's bill there seems to be more "ham" than ' ( tinning." IK)I SCI. GIRLS' CURAT ERY. Prepare him 1 y having him go through a long en gagement, which effectually renders It i in easy to handle. Gently detadi him from all of his old friends and ac quaintances and remove any habits he i- ay have. He is then ready to can, preserve or make jam, as you choose. To can, merely deprive him of his latchkey and throw a handful of moth r r-i.i-Iaw in the house. Men lorkcd ni like this have been known to keep lo; ears without spoiling, though when they are opened up, if kept too long, they are apt to be sour. To make jam, prepare as beloie, but shred all oi his liner feelings by nagging and 1 ound them into a pulp by complaints. To preserve a husband, put as much love into the heart as it will hold, add an oi can of sympathy, a world of tea do mess, a pound of forbearance, a dram ol patience and drop him into it until lie U thoroughly coated over with sugar. Husbands should always be lystalli.ed one at a time, never in pairs; neither should they ever be stood in hot water. That student leaders were not forthcoming Is no taint upon the honor of the student body. Iiy far the greater majority wished, nnd wish still, I see more honor exhibited and less need of surveillance shown. Captain Bowman has been practicing with the team every day for the past two weeks and has developed some good men. It has not been de tided yet what will be the line-up against the Methodists on Wednesday evening, but about eight men will go out and the line-up will likely be (hanged during the game. About ten l.H-n have been out trying for the team, but no decision has been mado as to vhat men will compose the Sophomore team. The fi lends of the Standatd Oil corn pan, the wild-cat speculators of Wall stieet and the apologists for coirupt political and business methods in mod uli life have endeavored to break the force of Mr. Lawson's exposures of 'high finance" at the present time on the grounds that he has been u part r! the same "system" which he now so vigorously assails. But no charge can be made against the great civic leader, Rudolph Blankenburg whose high standing in social and public life gives special force to his bold and masterly exposure of tho reign of graft and cor ruption in Pennsylvania, now being n ade in "The Arena." These papers cive a vivid and comnellinir storv of the rise and onward niarih of (orrupW Hon and political debauchery under the Cumero.i-O.uay mat bine and aided by tin powerful corporations which have i tmough the machinations ol unsi rupii lous politiiians niled Pennsylvania as .tl.Milutely as an autocrat rules hH nalm. The February "Aiena" con tains the second paper of this notable scries. It is devoted chle'ly to the ca reer of the late Mathevv Stanley Quay and denls with the sprouti.ig and spreading of corruption in the Key stone state. It contains ten portraits of leading state-mien and politicians of the period desuibed. Phi Gamma Delta gave a very en joyable dancing party at Walsh hall Friday evening.
