Delta Upsllon is planning a danco

The Freshmen of the Phi Delta
Thetas will glvo a smoker to the
Freshmen of othor fraternities on
Saturday evening.
The social event of tho week -was
"Everyman." Nearly all tho univer
sity turned out to see It. Most of tho
sororities, as well as many of tho fra
ternities, occupied boxes.
On Monday evening a number of the
girls of the dormitory gave an In
formal party In honor of Miss Grace
Purdy. An elaborate "spread" was
tho feature of the evening.
Tho girls of the Pan Hellenic coun
cil will glvo a fancy dress ball on
Saturday evening In tho Art room.
There Is much whispering and secret
planning of costumes connected with
tho affair.
In connection with the Pan Hellenic
council It Is of interest to note that
by a recent resolution, pledges made
to various fraternities by high school
students during the summer, will not
bo considered binding.
Tho annual banquet of Sigma Chi
will take place January 11. This year
tho fraternity will celebrate tho 23rd
anniversary of Its Installation hero.
Sigma Chi has tho honor of being tho
first local chapter of a national fra
ternity founded at Lincoln.
There have been a number of initia
tions at the sorority houses during tho
week. Among thoso Initiated at the
Chi Omega house were Miss Radcllffo
and Miss Vivian Lee Miss Frances
Cutter and Miss Clara Helmrod. Tho
latter part of last week a formal In
itiation was held at tho Kappa Kappa
Gamma house.

The Dartmouth-Brown debate will
bo hold In Providence in Jaunary.
Dartmouth will defend tho affirmative
of tho following question: "Resolved,
That It wtould be advantageous for the
United States to admit Canadian coal
and lumber free of duty."
Wesloyan won tho annual debato
with Williams at Wllllamstown. Tho
question was: "Resolved, That tho
government of territories and of alien
peoples bythe President and Congress
of the United States unrestralnod and
unqualified by tho Federal Constitu
tion necessarily will be Injurious to
our republican institutions and to our
