medical laboratory. Plans are now
completed and the work will begin
early In the fall.
A mine in Colorado will be leased
by Yale, Harvard, the Colorado School
of Mines and Columbia, In order that
students may get the practical work
ings of the mine during the summer.
The factulty and alumni of Minne
sota will erect a statue to President
Northrup. This Is the first Instance
of a statue being erected to a living
president, in token of the esteem in
Yhich he is held.
In the annual Freshman. Sophomore
scrap at Wisconsin. GOO students were
ducked In Lake Mendota. The rush
continued for three hours and a half
and was one of the most strenuous in
the annuls of the university.
It is rumored that this year's regis
tration for the Yale football squad Is
the smallest In ten yearB only 35 men
turning out. The registration at Har
vard is 80 and at Princeton 70. The
latter Is having hard work to decide
on the final make-up of her line.
It Is no reflection upon Yale Uni
versity that a man who last year
played guard on Its varsity eleven Is
now In Jail for keeping a gambling
house, while his wife has pleaded
guilty to embezzling $2,000. It Is a
reminder, however, that the hunt for
big and brawny athletics among minor
elevens produces some queer results.

At Brown University it Is planned to
do away with gate receipts at athleflc
affairs. It Is proposed that tickets be
i&sued to the. a,lumnkand students of
the University foV the entire season,
but the problem of dealing with the
public has not yet been solved.
Another plan suggests that the ath
letics be reguarly endowed and the
university students, as well as the pub
lic, be admitted free of charge.
Along the line of the anti-hat raising
league at Wisconsin we have the senti
ment of a prominent girl of that uni
ersitv, who declares that "too much
time Is wasted by dropping a chain of
serious thought to smile upon young
men. Consider, too," she says, "the
sheer absurdity of smiling on the
same young man a dozen times a day,
as A girl is frequently compelled by
politeness to do. This causes wrinkles
and when continued during a four
year course, hastens old age. Cold
weather Is coming on apaco and with
the themometer 80 degrees below zero
a girl, no matter how healthy she is,
cannot afford to waste heat by be
stowing upon young men so many
warrtt smiles, as a simple nod of the
head suffices to Indicate recognition."
