The University Dramatic club pre sents "Tompkins" Hired Man," at Me morial hall tonight. This is a rural play of more than ordinary worth. Miss HowoH said last night, when seen by a reporter: "The play is replete with strongly dramatic situations. It Is a more serious undertaking than plays we have been in the habit of giving, and the fact is, the best one we have given yet." The cast chosen to present tho play !b very strong. They have been re hearsing ever since the beginning of the semepter. Mr. Edwin F. Myers of minstrel show and Senior play fame, will act In the title role. He is Tomp kins' hired man, a millionaire in dis guise, working for his board and clothes. Mr. Charles Wallad and Miss Hrlttannia Daughters, will hold forth as Mr. and Mrs. Tompkins. Mr. Wal lace haa won an enviable reputation in his elocution class and will certain ly make an excellent old farmer. The juvenile parts will bo taken by Miss Lucy Van Home, Miss Grace Denny, MIes Kate Kendall, Mr. Adams and Mr carl Hartley, Miss Van Home has the part of the dish washing cousin, whose mirth and mischief add a charm to every scene. Mr. Adams is the de voted lover of Mr. Tompins' favorite daughter, and will no doubt set a standard which all steady couples will strive in vain to reach. Miss Kendall Is aninspiring artist who paints cows bestride the moon. Mr. Hartley has cast nslde all ordi nary pomp and dignity and acts the part ol a messenger boy. As it always costs a small sum to present a ploy and this is such n par ticularly good one. and especialb in view of the balance yet of be raised on their pledge to the Temple Fund, the Dramatic .club has decided to ci.arge an admission of 10 cents The play will begin at 8 o'clock. Engineering Annual Out. The "Nebraska Engineering" which Ib tho annual publication of the En gineering society, is out today. It r resents a large number of attractive features and closely written articles on scientific subjects, all the matter be ing artistically arranged. The open ing article Is "A Plea for a Depart ment of Tests at the State University" by Prof. Geo. R. Chatburn. This is followed by a contribution by Olin Jerome Ferguson. B. Sc, E. E. '03. Mr. M. E. Wells, chief boiler Inspector of the Burlington, has an rtlcle, on "Boiler Waters." Prof. O. v P. Stout has an article that involved a great deal of research and testing, on "An Established Method of Using the Railroad Spiral." Other subjects treated in a thoroughly scientific man ner are:- "Explosive Engines," by Les lie S. Cushman; "Civil Engineering," by Prof. Stout, and "Electrical En gineering," by George H. Morse. Tho book contains fine illustrations representing the surveying equipment, a section of a surveying class, field parties on the state farm grcnind, the test laboratory, the method of applying load to model, the model bridge floor after testing, the dynamo laboratory. and shops, the galvanometer and mag netic laboratory, the engineering li brary and views from the electrical engineering laboratories, as well as diagrams of various kinds. The book has been gotten up with care and taste and reflects a great deal of credit upon our engineering depart ment, being truly representative of tho work and inclusive of all its de partments. The cover design is attrac tive and appropriate. All In all the book represents superiority among its kind and is a successful exposition of the work and scope of our engineer ing departments.
